Doing That Library Thing
Another tool easy to become obsessed with - I only tagged a few books, because of course like most of us, my goal is to enter all the books in my personal library & I have to figure out exactly how I want to tag them - should I enter the bookshelf (or box as the sad case may be) where the book is located so I can easily find it, or am I kidding myself & should I just dive in and do everything? I'm so thankful for 2.0 - I really don't think I would have ever done this without the push - I've read about library thing, gone to the site - even played around, but taking the extra step & actually doing it myself, I probably wouldn't have done it. So thanks!

My Friend Flicka er Flickr
Although I use Picasa, I'm glad 2.0 urged me to check flickr out - there are alot of talented joes out there -hours spent in mind numbing admiration can be wasted here. I especially like the minibooks, one of my sisters is getting married this summer & I'm already taking photos of wedding related things - I think I'll collect them in a mini-book as a shower present - these would also be so fun for birthdays - jeez, I have to stop using 2.0 to feed my shopping addiction! I also looked at photos of several fun things - Goldendoodles - which are the cutest dogs ever and totally hypoallergenic, someday we'll add one to our family; the now long gone Missoula peace sign, and, just for kicks, Beckham.

Podcasts
Two of my favorite podcasts are podrunner which is about an hour of techno music at a steady running pace - kinda boring, but great to zone out to while running & This American Life - although sadly, I don't have much time to listen to it - my husband gets a lot of use out of this one for his looooong commute, and he fills me in on the best.
RSS Feeds
Although I'm behind, I have to say I do enjoy my RSS feeds! When I first heard about these, I thought - what a way to get more information than you need - and I didn't jump on the RSS bandwagon. It took 2.0 to get me to do this, and I still think it's possible to overdo subscribing to feeds - I like to be in control of when I get my information - and as anybody with an overloaded email inbox knows, information can pile up very quickly. However, I enjoy being able to see when some of my favorite KRL bloggers add to their blogs & I love my NPR!

TAGGING!
Fa lalalala...lalalala! Now my Christmas shopping will be so easy - wow, do I ever love tagging. We use it at port orchard on the reference desk all the time - but I never really realized how much I loved tagging for my personal use. Since I have a new pc, (our old one crashed & I lost all my beloved favorites) I'm now going to tag everything so i'll never be in this predicament again! Of course, i have to find time - but this is one thing that's so quick & easy, even i can find time to tag while I get my holiday shopping done. Hmmm, does this justify shopping at work?

43 Things really made me realize how little I know about the current web environment. I surf the net every day, use email, shop online, download music, and of course use it daily for my job at KRL, but other than delicious, I'm really using very few of the applications we'll be exploring inKRl2.0. As for 43 Things, I generally don't ever use lists like this, but I'm definitely going to check out some of the applications mentioned. I had a friend visit this weekend and he started to teach my 9-year old how to write code - in a few minutes my son had a website up and was madly listing all his pokemon cards. While I'm a huge proponent of children staying connected with the physical world, and not really getting involved with online communities, etc; I have to admit, it was pretty cool to watch his enthusiasm for his new website!
